Within Glossop The historic market town of Glossop has many places to eat and drink, within easy walking distance of Birds Nest Cottage. For example, one of the nearby pubs, The Globe, serves excellent vegan meals and real ale, as well as being the main venue for the Lift Global Music Club. Glossop hosts several popular musical events during the year including the Jazz Festival in September and The Lift Global Music Festival earlier in the summer. The recreational facilites within Glossop include a beautifully restored Victorian swimming pool and a theatre, and there are opportunities for sailing at Torside Reservoir, golf at Glossop golf club, riding, cycling and, of course, walking. Indoor and outdoor markets operate on Fridays and Saturdays, and there are large open air street markets on Bank Holidays. Victorian Weekend, usually held at the end of August, is particularly popular. |
